The minister said that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that security is a concern in every modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

The announcement comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

The broader security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and caution in every aspects of official activities, from vehicle use to discussions habits.
