Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
